I watched the trailer and a few scenes from Jennifer's Body, and I have to say I find the movie to be hilarious. At first, I was a little confused because the film seemed to be a horror film, but as I continued to watch I began to see how funny Jennifer was. She comes up with very quick, humorous one-liners that keep the audience laughing because it comes out of nowhere. In one scene for instance, Chip stabs Jennifer and she begins to gush blood, as I watched the scene, I was expecting Jennifer to either attack Needy or die, but instead she turns to Needy and goes “You got a tampon?”. The incongruity theory can be seen here because this comment is so unexpected. No one would think someone who just got stabbed to ask for a tampon to try and stop themselves from bleeding out. The benign theory can be seen here as well because her comment is just a little inappropriate, but not enough to make people uncomfortable. Another scene that shows how Jennifer’s humor is when Needy says to her “I will finish you if I have to”, and Jennifer responds with “Okay you can barely finish gym class”. It is funny because when Needy is trying to be intimidating and threatening, she just completely shoots her down by criticizing and making fun of Needy which takes away her entire argument. Because this comeback was a complete change of tone between the two girls, it causes the viewers to laugh. This movie overall is very funny despite the fact that it is a horror film. I find Jennifer’s sarcastic comments to be very funny, and her comments really showcase the benign and incongruity theory.
